Tell RyPod: Music

Hey guys

I wasn’t going to post this, this early, but seeing as the Firedog Brian was a bust and everyone’s decided what they’re doing with it, this place is a little quiet so I thought I’d mention this announcement now while it’s quiet.

Not many of you know what RyPod actually stands for…the Ry is for Ryan (my name) and the whole name sounds like iPod (but with a Ry lol) because I LOVE music, it’s the biggest love of my life bar none.

Which brings me to this announcement…in three weeks today, I’ll be absent from this website for a week (Holly and Zooey are taking over the comments for a week) because I’ll be at Download!! ๐Ÿ˜€

For those of you who don’t know, Download is the biggest rock and metal music festival in the UK, with bands such as Muse, Slipknot, Kiss (the latter have been mentioned on Family Guy so you should all know them)

I’m super psyched as its my first festival and I’ll be sat in a field for 5 days listening to the best music in the world ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

So this Tell RyPod is this…what type of music are you into and what are some of your fave bands or songs? ๐Ÿ˜Š

  1. What a fun post. First off totally jealous Rypod. ๐Ÿ˜ The line up at Download is fantastic….Billy Idol, Suicidal Tendencies, L7, Judas Priest to name a few…I am a fan of most music except this crap on the radio these days and country (and yes I’m an American…well I like listening to James Taylor at times, I think he’s considered country) I just turned 36 so my listening is an accumulation of my years, then and now. Pixies, pavement, sonic Youth, Social Distortion, Agent Orange, Iggy pop, dead kennedys, the shins, broken bells, the black keys, blackalicious, the pharcyde, the roots, Eric b & rakim, rebirth brass band, most music I prefer is from the 80’s and early 90’s, I enjoy dancing to electronic, I love old school hip hop and rap….I will watch any music live though, it truly shows the great artists from those who only sound good via auto tune. No matter the genre, live music is the best…

    1. I completely agree Marion, there are a few exceptions, where some bands suck live (for example: The Black Eyed Peas at a Super Bowl a few years back sounded awful) but rock music does seem to come over the best at live gigs compared to other genres, and if you’re jealous Marion, fly over to the UK with SweetTat lol and everyone else who wants to come ๐Ÿ˜† we’ll have a dance off while drunk as skunks ๐Ÿ˜‚

      1. You are so right. However, The black eyed peas pre-fergie were good. Saw them in New Orleans at a small show, I guess maybe 1997 or so and they were fantastic. I think money often ruins a bands sound!! I guess maybe fergie ruined black eyed peas, sorry to any Fergie fans.

Oh man if I could afford the plane ticket I’d be camped out in a tent, days without a bath, starving myself because I couldn’t afford food after the pricey plane ticket, but absolutely loving life and dancing drunk as skunks! Have a blast love, you deserve it.

      2. I’d love to hear about it. Want to know who you were able to see…So many choices! Have a beer for me and sweet tat, guess you’ll have to dance drunk as a skunk without us….Well, Billy Idol will be there, “Dancing with myself” can be your theme song. Only three more weeks and then five full days of FUN! ๐Ÿ˜Ž (thought that emoticon was pretty fitting for the festival)

  5. ๐Ÿ’ซwow Rypod I’m listening to music right now actually on Pandora and literally JUST THINKING hmm…maybe one of you should make up a post asking us what kind of music we’re into LOL!! so ironic!,.Anyways…Rock all the way for me.i’m into rap too, but more and more recently I’ve been listening to old bands like damn…Right now it’s Silverstein, who could ever forget the olden days of Sonny Moore From First To Last haha! and Rise Against: I’m actually trying to go to a show in Pittsburgh,PA called XFest this July with Rise Against,Killswitch Engage, and Chevelle. โœจ…then there’s A Day To Remember, Bullet For My Valentine, and ATREYU!!!…I could go on and on with past bands. I think ALOT of these news bands today are ๐ŸŒŸNOTHING๐ŸŒŸ compared to what 7-8 years back screamo/emo(gawd, I dislike that word)/rock music. Hawthorne Heights?! YES PLEASE haha I’m totally stuck in the past I know it, but I’d listen to those bands before MOST of the new crap today.๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ‘ŽThis “Download” music fest seems really interesting! I’ve only been to 2 concerts my whole life, Vans Warped Tour 2 summers in a row and instantly got hooked to just a couple newer bands…now I’m totally wanting to get into actually goin to see different bands and what not perform.

      1. I’d like to consider myself into most music, mainly rock/metal but a bit of rap, some 90’s stuff (as I grew up with it) and occasional random songs here and there that I like but yeah, I’m pretty well versed ๐Ÿ˜Š I did say that music is my number one love lol ๐Ÿ˜† so what type of bands are underground rap Saad?

      2. I agree there’s only a few mainstream rap artists I still listen too but NOT many at all. it’s mostly older rap songs I listen too. These new rap artists out now wow I can’t stand it. It’s like the same beat over and over again and with the same freakin’ words and lyrics over and over again. So damn annoying!!! ๐Ÿ‘Ž

        Like

      3. Exactly, the lyrics are the worst part of it. They’re just so meaningless or fake and don’t make any sense most of the time.

I do sound like an oldie huh lmao well i’m still 17 at heart Rypod!! lol with most of the music I listen to now, it’s all stuff I listened too back when I was in high school hahaa! ๐Ÿ˜Š …totally wish they would come out wit some better&100% UNIQUE rap songs/music at this point of time tho..how bout a major change with the overused same kinda rap beats also wtf ๐Ÿ˜ค ๐Ÿ˜‚

Too funny. I got your too shy joke but couldn’t come up with the correct spelling for the band…but I saw the spelling below….so the answer is kajagoogoo…wow autocorrect does not like that name.
        I love new wave music!

      5. Exactly marion! Am I the only person who likes nirvana , celine dion, blur and bee gees? The only music genre I dislike is rave/techno. Makes me go nuts.

    2. Lots of good one hit wonders in the 80’s. You seem to be like me, big fan of 80’s and 90’s music. Love me some Blur and nirvana. Who’da thunk, Celine Dione and nirvana together in the same sentence. Lol. That’s what is so great about music…If you feel it, you feel it, it doesn’t matter the genre.

      Like

    3. Splendid spy, I’d totally dig on some bee gees, blur, and nirvana with you and even though I don’t listen to her, I can’t deny Celine Dion has a great voice. I grew up on sounds like the bee gees and then found my taste going towards music like blur/nirvana as a teenager. So my iTunes selection is quite the mash. Always funny to have it on shuffle and it go from oldies to hard rock to old school hip hop to punk to jazz…I get the electronic, haven’t listened to much over the last several years and some can get a bit repetitive but as a young adult I loved going to parties and dancing my ass off. Some DJs are just great at building up the music and just letting it go. Or like Rabbit in the Moon who put on a spectacular show. However now, in my wise old age of 36 ๐Ÿ˜›, I’d rather a live band any day and rarely ever listen to electronic.

      1. I listen to a type of music called ‘grime’. It’s really only popular in some parts of the UK (so you have heard of it RyPod) and it’s basically our version of underground rap, but faster.

        Like

      1. So… this means you are into Rave/Techno music since the only music genre you dislike is Rock?

        Like

    1. Never heard of grime but I googled it (man I love the Internet) and it said its a mashup of UK garage, drum and bass, dancehall and hip hop. Sounds like my kind of music. Definitely going to check this out. I love topics like this, I get to find new bands to add to my collection….So thanks Saad for the heads up on grime and thanks Rypod for the topic.

      1. Thank me later. Listen to some then tell us what you think. I’ll be happy when grime gets the recognition it deserves.

      2. Saad, I saw you listed a few bands…so solid crew, lethal bizzle, dizzee rascal, Wiley…any recommendations on where to start, a particular artist or album?
I’ve always been a fan of true rap and hip hop. I’ve been able to find some really good small shows in New Orleans (but it’s been probably 8 years or so since I’ve found anything decent)…I can’t stand this new crap out. As you and sweet tat (autocorrect just won’t let me put that as one word) said in another post, there’s just no meaning to the music now.
Any recommendations, let me know. If not, I’ll start with so solid crew and continue down the list. Cheers!

      3. Marion, I recommend:
So Solid Crew – 21 Seconds
        Kano – P’s &Q’s
        Lethal bizzle – POW
        Tinchy Stryder – Breakaway
        N-Dubz – Defeat You
Devlin ft Wretch 32 – Off With Their Heads
        Chipmunk – Who Are You
        Ghetts – Artillery
        Skepta – That’s Not Me
Brotherhood – Make it to the top
        Fekky – Still Stitting Here
        Meridian Dan – German Whip

I’ve only given a range of classics to the modern tracks and one from each artist so if you like these just search the artist on youtube or spotify to hear more from them ๐Ÿ™‚

      4. Thanks Saad and Holly for the recommendations. I’ll check them out and let you know what I think. Unfortunately, it’s all too often that really good artists never get the praise they deserve. Over the last several years it’s been by word of mouth that I find most music I like.

Too many fave songs to list, but Stranglehold by Ted Nugent is way up there, always puts me in a happy trance.
Still go to many concerts, my faves for stage shows would be Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, and of course KISS.

    Have fun at the Festival!!
