A Word From RyPod

Hey guys,

I don’t have to ask “what grinds your gears” at the moment because I can see it all in the comments section that I monitor…

TinyCo ‘apparently’ view this site as we’re pretty honest with our comments and posts and give everything a fair chance and a fair shout. We don’t work for TinyCo, we work for this community and we give our honest opinions…

I know a lot of you aren’t happy with the bird situation and obviously I can relate as I’m not only a moderater, I’m a fellow gamer too…

But there seems to be a bit of a mass exodus at the moment with people leaving, I’ve noticed. At least 4 in the last week have said they’re going to quit the game and I’ve said the same to all of them as I will to you now…

If you do decide to leave the game, uninstall it or whatever, don’t feel like you have to stop coming on our website and leaving comments on your thoughts and feelings like we all currently do. If TinyCo view this site as mentioned above then our comments will only help them to make the game better and the reason I came back as a moderator is because of the community…

People like Fred, Tat, Saad, Holly and Zooey (obviously), Stef/Lili, Logan, Decaf, Spy and every single one of you who comment are the people that make this community what it is!! (Sorry if I missed any regular names out lol, I’m going purely off memory here) πŸ˜†

It’s you, the commenters, who ARE this community and just because some of you may quit the game, doesn’t mean you have to quit the community, we all look out for each other and we always will 😊 so hang out, it could be fun πŸ˜ƒ

  1. I feel really bad for you guys who have to take this kind of anger from people. The people at TinyCo are as much cowards as they are incompetent. Its too bad too because the themes and events are way better than The Simpsons game, but the execution is miles and miles below that game.

  2. Not getting this costume doesn’t really have me that upset. It’s nowhere near as heartbreaking as last summer with the Kool-Aid Man Event that I came within 1 item of reaching. I’ll continue playing and for the next event I’ll just lower my expectations of what I I’ll be able to unlock.

  3. Yep I’m someone who has logged off it. The game before I could do playing regularly and get most of the stuff during an event. I would then slip a few clams on a character per event or on the clam offer each event. It seems this is no longer enough. Clearly they have been told to up the revenue and the game is no longer worth me logging on. I’ve moved on to another game now. If a Star wars event ever happens I will play it to spend the remainder of my clams. I hope you all can get more from this game than me πŸ™‚

But Bird man Peter can still be mine for the low low price of 231 Clams!!!
I just made a fart noise with my mouth to express what I think of that . You guys couldn’t hear it but it was there and it sounded long and wet!

The tremendous amounts of money it takes to get anywhere.

The uselessness of purchased characters immediately after the event ends.

  6. I got the skin with 19 hours to spare but it was a grind. Now I ask myself, “Why?” If the past is any indication, it won’t ever be used again. For anything. Which brings me to the purpose of my post.

I have posted previously that premium players don’t have enough of an advantage by spending money for premium characters. They are good for one challenge in an event and then become coin collectors. I play strictly freemium and would have ZERO issue if premium characters gave an advantage for the entirety of the game (not just events). This event would have been the perfect opportunity. It was a grind and the only clam advantage was to rush tasks (which doesn’t even guarantee a drop). Why not take some premium characters and add them to those that can drop items. Even it they are classified as 12-hour “extra rare” tasks, there still is a chance that one of them would drop a few items during the course of the mini-event and help out someone who spent real money in the past to buy a character.

I feel the same way with this skin and others that have been grinds. Upon release, I did the math and knew it would be a grind. I took the approach that if I got it, great; and if I didn’t, did I really need another Peter skin? I might have felt differently had I thought there was a chance that by achieving this skin it might give me a SLIGHT advantage in a grinding mini-event down the road.

Many of us have been playing for 13 months and we have amassed a lot of “stuff”. But as we pass the $4M and $5M coin barrier, what purpose does a lot of that stuff serve? I get it that if the game relies on event characters who are no longer available (Cleveland in the Full Moon event was a colossal strategy flaw!!), new players will feel like they can’t compete in the game at an even level and will leave before even getting started. But what about the players who have been loyal for a year? Why not figure out a way to reward them, even if it is a slight advantage. I would feel validated if BB Peter or SSO Peter or Edo Herbert (skins that were tough to get) popped into the game with a task that dropped an item in a really tough grinding mini-event. Even a long “extra rare” task.

In the meantime, I own yet another Peter skin. πŸ™‚ At least TinyCo smartened up and decided to continue the quests past the event end for anyone who achieved the skin. That was another thing that would stick in my craw — an event that required right up to the very end to collect everything and then the questlines start and the event is over and they would go bye-bye. They are only 10 coins for each finished task but at least I have activity until the next thing drops into our games. I sure hope it is a district as I am feeling burned out after nine weeks of grinding for “stuff”.

    1. Don’t speak too soon a lot of players myself included (gave in and finished 3 8 hour timers early and spent another 45 clams) got the skin and now have had there quests disappear. Mostly the naughty by nature quest but some report watching the birds gone too.

  7. Thanks for the shout out Ryan. It has been really fun communicating with you guys, posters and moderators (especially Holly), since she’s a Man Utd supporter πŸ˜‰ .

Jokes aside, I have never had any problems with the items collection for characters or costume until the Star Trek event. However, kudos to TinyCo as they listened to our complaints and comments and made it easier for us as the event progresses.

The Peter Bird costume item collection was rather difficult at the beginning as well but…characters have been dropping items most of the time during the later stage of the event again. I have already obtained his costume while playing completely freemium.

Therefore guys, never give up when completing a quest as it always gets easier towards the end…it never fails.:)

Btw Ryan, how many clams do you have at the moment?

  8. Yeah I’ve been playing diligently, still won’t be able to get the skin by today. I feel like the game is becoming a paid game. Also the game progression and drop rates are frustrating. TinyCo is sucking the fun out of the game. Fun factor on this game is close to zero and more out of habit now.

  10. I haven’t experienced the issues others have apparently had with the birds. I have one green left to drop and I have 3 jobs for them completing in the next 4 hours. Worked out perfectly for me. So unless they pull a third “king butt” on me and don’t drop the last one for some reason, I’m golden.

My question is, are the questlines going to be removed when the mini-event ends, or it’s going to stay if you have won Peter’s costume?

    1. They should stay I imagine, otherwise nobody will have time to do the quests, for example, I got Data just before the Star Trek quest ended and then had his quests to do after the event ended

      1. Well you were half right. For some reason they removed “Naughty By Nature” and left “Watching the Birds”. WTF? Could there be a better example of them being inconsistent? There is not a snowball’s chance in hell of anyone finishing either of those questlines before Nature Week ended because they BOTH require long tasks from Bird Beard Peter, and if anyone was able to get him, it was today. Why bother writing jokes and setting questlines up if 99.999999% of your users aren’t going to see it?

  12. I agree! I’ve spent too much on clams buying shiny things. I’m done wasting money.

Due to their ethical code of supporting the newbies, characters don’t do ANYTHING once their event finishes and that is pathetic!

It’s bad for a free character, it’s infuriating for one I/we paid

One thing I noticed during Star Trek was that the full cost of buying a character was WAAAAAY higher than buying the total number of individual items to unlock them.
    How f’d up is that?

  14. I’m not quitting but I am definitely irritated. This is the first event I haven’t been able to complete, nor do I think I’ll be able to finish by the deadline. I do spend a decent chunk of real money on this game (I budget for hobbies) and I’m still 300 clams away despite very regular play. That’s a poor use of my clams so while I would pay that for a new character, no way for a costume. Peter has a ton of unused costumes as it is, I just hate that I’ll be incomplete more than anything. I struggled with the Star Trek event and spent a ridiculous amount of clans there, too, I wonder if this is just the new normal.

    1. Maybe they’ll bring back this costume in the future for a cheaper price? 😊 they did with Pee Pants the Clown, but I agree, I’ve got loads of clams but saving them for actual characters with actual quests so losing this costume isn’t a big deal for me

  15. Well Rypod, while I’m not going anywhere, I think it’s great to welcome former players to stay with the chat. Hopefully TinyCo will ease up on quantities, drop rates, and time frames as they REALLY make it tough on Freemium players. Of course we must remember what Freemium means. I also (avidly) play The Simpsons: Tapped Out. They have a TON more premium decs/characters than here. On the lighter side, at 8pm MDT US, I’m within 81 clams. Finished blue this afternoon. Thanks for letting me ramble!!

    2. Its as simple as I have not missed any chances of collecting pink birds since the event started and am still at 17/25 (120 clams) short with just 3 chances remaining. The only way to get it without spending clams is to have “amazing” luck on three different drops for the entire duration of the event. I had it on 2 of them and had terribleluck on the 3rd.

If the want people to spend clams they should just have made it premium. If the want it to be free then it should be attainable by just steady play not steady play and crazy luck.

  17. Hey, hey,, Dingo here, with a special guest today Gore Vidal!!! Thanks for the shout out there Rypod!!!

I really did not think that I was going to get this costume.. but as I kept playing, it kept narrowing down… Right now, I only have 4 pink birds to go.. With a drop of 3 (Bonnie, Jerome, and the high school) coming up in an hour.. Should be 2 drops left after that to get him.. So, I should have it, or by my figures, be at least one bird away from purchasing for 15 clams… Really don’t wanna do that.

I do think that they have changed the drop rates, Just 3 days ago, I was getting a bird or 2 a day… But, I have also noticed that if you do the questline along with the gathering, as the questline progresses, it seems (to me) that the drop rates increase also.. Let me know if any of you other Quahogians have noticed this..

I really think that if I hadn’t stumbled on this site, I probably would have fizzled out on this game a while ago. The game is fun, but it is a whole lot more fun when you have somewhere to talk about it, make wise ass comments, get help, and complain about crap that is totally out of everyone’s control. If it wasn’t for Rypod, Zoey, Justin, and Hollypop, I well would have lost interest…. Thanks guys for all of your late hours, hatred comments, giving up work and family and everything else you put up with… If you ever make it to the states, I will gladly buy you a beer.. Btw, I am on the Coast in Mississippi.. So, not making any trips to New York for a beer!!! lol

I also invite anyone that wants, to add me on Fb so we can be friends in the game… I love going to other’s towns, and seeing where everyone else is in the game… Just send me a message on FB, so I will know where you are adding me from…

Thanks again guys.. Fred (aka Dingo)

  18. Can never argue with people who want to leave. It’s their prerogative and I’ve felt like that a few times. Wouldn’t mind missing costumes if I missed like 12-16 hours off a day of one event but when you do all you can and send the characters every chance you get and still can’t get the new costume it’s then when I start to worry. Has definitely been a shift. Going back way when… I’d struggled with the Egyptian one at the end, found the Halloween one to be fairly comfortable, only just managed to do the Christmas one, Valentine’s was similarly just completed but Star Trek as much as I enjoyed it it was the first event I’d missed out on a costume (Ohura) and solely because I didn’t get enough dark matter. Had the event lasted for 4 more hours I would’ve had it. As a separate rant – if we realise we can’t do a timed boss like Stay puft or Bertram can we get some button or other to cancel the timer so we can restart it again ASAP. As after 4/8 hours and you’ve missed s few chances at the start and you know you can’t beat it it’s a nuisance waiting 16-20 hours to start the process again. Anyway… Enjoy the game but it’s been a bit hard recently!

  20. I likely will not earn this costume as I am still about 360 clams away from getting it down to zero. I have played since day 1 and have every character and every costume. Well, I did until the bonehead move of putting Borg Consuela in a mystery box. Now my ongoing streak to have all of the characters/costumes is gone. I will keep playing, just no longer will I spend any money or care if I complete or don’t earn everything. The same happened with TSTO and I went from a premium to freemium player and haven’t spent any money on that game and I am still enjoying it but without caring about the quests or limited time items.

I am sure my bank account is happy with my switch to freemium with FG – I just checked my iTunes receipts and I have spent $450 on this game so far! Yikes!!!

  21. I agree with the comments regarding the change in game play. It’s starting to feel like a casino game, with the forced repetition to overcome the random odds of receiving things, and clams (real money) for mystery box prizes and characters with uncertain usefulness. I do believe they want to keep improving the game, but they’ve said themselves that they have things planned out many months ahead of time and want to stick to the schedule. It’s hard to see what’s happening now when you’re looking so far ahead. Besides, where’s the motivation? The answer is all over their corporate website. This game is winning them awards, and new player$ join all the time. One or even a hundred players quitting won’t pose a threat to their on-site game room and nightly catered dinners. Not to mention, they are the only company I’ve ever seen who literally claim to “put the company first.” It’s hard to imagine the wheels not falling off this thing. I’m still playing for now, but not as seriously as I used to, and it’s more out of habit than fun.

I’m glad they recognise our honesty as I only have one rule when it comes to commenting here, which is to be as real as possible. This is also why I respect those who announce their decision to stop playing rather than passing out under the radar.
I was annoyed at my progress with the birds despite playing so much, but I noticed they may have changed the drop rates without telling us. This time yesterday i needed about 10 of each but now I only need 3 or 4 of each. I appreciate te change but why do they always do this and not tell us?

    1. I got my last blue this morning, so I’m there. That means that I had (I think) eight more potential drops on blues before the end of the timer. That seems kind of trivial compared to the real topic at hand right now though.
I also feel a change in tone. The BC mystery box thing irritated me, and I was caught unawares too by the start of bird-beard. A couple of thoughts though:
Maybe they are actually trying to make some costumes rarer than others. We don’t HAVE to get everything, and sometimes something feels more valuable the more you’ve had to try to get it. This is a game after all, and no game should allow you to win every time or it’s not interesting. That said, I’m not spending real money on imaginary, never to be seen again costumes any more. My wife won’t let me apart from anything else πŸ˜‰
Secondly, on the timing. The week before the ST event finished there was a comment from TC that they couldn’t extend the event because they had things lined up to go next. Two days later, what happened? In retrospect, they probably planned a week of downtime in between, which player demand forced them to use up to get that pesky Kirk.
I’m not a TC fanboy, just that when these comments get so one-sided it always pushes me to look for balance.

  24. I am not leaving today but I do notice the change. Like most of us, there is no way I will get this costume. This will be the first mini challenge costume I will miss. I kind of liked having the complete set of Peters because I started playing before pee-pee the clown. I can understand having a business and wanting to turn a profit. I don’t have a problem with that. I think they are just going about it the wrong way. If they made it possible but not too easy, I think everyone would be fine with it. If the casual gamers were within 50 clams or so on the last day, many of them would pay it. However, with even the most dedicated players needing to spend $15 or so to complete. No one is going to do it. They need to wise up. $1.99 from 80% of the players will net them way more than $15.00 from .5% of the players.

  25. Thanks for the shoutout :). I totally feel for the people that have to get away from the game because I’ve come close many times, especially with the crashes with never EVER get better despite numerous changes on my end with my device and my town. TC seems to be unable to learn from their mistakes, or even their successes, and makes it seem like they love to make us squirm and stress. They dropped this weekend event not only less than 36 hrs after a MAJOR when most of us are tired from the grind, but also after 1AM EST so I’m sure most East of the Mississippi, and across the pond, missed out on sending characters on tasks right when it launched. Did that really make more sense than say starting it a couple days later at a time when they know everyone would be awake and ready for new content? Their decisions just don’t make sense to me and I picture decision makers waking up from a fever dream and shouting “BIRDS! We’re putting Birds in the game right now!” Sorry this turned into a gear grinding went, but you know once I get on a roll, it’s hard to stop πŸ˜‰

  27. Rypod, I am glad that players that are deciding to leave the game are taking to the blogs to announce that they are. Maybe TinyCo will read these comments and realize that they are ticking off some of their loyal, dedicated, money paying, players (aka customers…) I am not personally to the point of quitting the game, as it is just that, a game, although I too am frustrated about the perceived change in game play dynamics. Maybe those that announce they are quitting (and give valid, coherent reasons why) will motivate TinyCo to improve/change the game for those of us that stick it out and continue playing.
