Feedback: Star Trek Event

This post was meant to mark the end of the Star Trek event but it has been extended to 7th May 2015, that doesn’t matter – we would still like to hear what you think of the event!

We will direct TinyCo to this post so they can read through your feedback.

What are the best points of the Star Trek event?

Were there any negative points?

Did you play the whole event freemium?

If so, was there anything you couldn’t unlock or achieve?

If you played as a premium player, what did you buy? And what have you unlocked?

Could you complete all the quests? If not, why?

If you had the chance, would there have been anything you would’ve changed with the event?

Is there anything you were expecting during the event but didn’t see? Certain characters? Buildings?

What do you think about saying farewell to the Enterprise once the event is over? Will you be designing a Star Trek district area?

Do you have any suggestions?

  1. Now that the event is over I’ll put my 2 cents in. While I did enjoy the event, for the most part, I do feel that this was an event that was geared towards players that are willing/able to spend money on the game. If you were unwilling or just simply can’t put money into the game, you were out of luck. Especially if you didn’t have that much time to play the game. At first I thought this event would beat out my view that the Comic Con event was the best, it quickly turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment. With prior events there was a lot to offer to non money spenders and more for money spenders. Which I’m fine with. For this event I really felt like if you didn’t put money into the game, you’re not getting anything. Also, anytime you buy a character you need clams for, they become utterly useless, regardless of them being available from an event. There just doesn’t seem to be any incentive to spend clams on characters when they don’t contribute to anything at all. They should always have at least one task that can get an item to unlock a costume or character and have a higher likelihood of getting a rare item.

  2. You shouldn’t be calling this event a success. You’ve shot yourselves in the foot and angered a lot of players. Sure there were lots of great things about it, but it was overshadowed by the fact that, even if you spent $60+ like I did to get all the characters, it was still impossible to get all the items. The drop rates were INSANELY low, look at the THOUSANDS of complaints on your Facebook page. You extended the event another week, but the unannounced rewards you were offering would have taken at least 2 weeks of logging in 15+ times a day to achieve. The green cubes hardly ever dropped, I shot the cubes down like 30 times and only got one, and I’ve set my alarm every 2 hours for the last 3 days and I could only get like 30 of the 75 needed. None of your other events were like this, and I’m sure your profits soared, but you’ll see a steep fall in players in the coming months. I’ve been playing freemium games for years and I’ve seen it in almost all my games. I got everything except the gold statue, but I feel I put in 3x as much work into this event as other ones and spend 2x as much money and this is the first time I’ve missed out on an item.

Next time create an event with reachable goals for casual players and let the premium players get through it without feeling cheated at the end.

  3. thanks for extending the event, but since you put more stuff in I think it should be extended a little longer

  4. I have been a devout Star Trek fan for years. That said, I think some of the characters were way too expensive (Why would you pay $10 for a character??) and the fact that the drop rates were too low.

also, I’d like to have seen the event be indefinite. Allow us to finish it at our leisure rather than trying to check in 15 times a day.

Other than that I enjoyed this. I got most of the characters and I’m going to try to get Data or Picard as the time runs out.

  5. While the event was awesome in general, one must wonder if Tinyco understands that some people sleep, some people work, and some people can’t afford the large amounts of real money expected to be paid for all the add ons, and some people fall under all 3 points. This event has unfortunately made me feel like quitting the game.

    1. I mean, I still haven’t gotten Data, even with the extension. Ive put all the characters I can on the mission to get the little red book as often as I can, and they rarely give it up. I think maybe Herbert has given me 4 in the entire event, and I had him going at least 3 times a day. Ugh! Probably won’t have time to get him or Picard, much less Worf as I can’t afford the clams.

      1. I will finally actually get Picard with maybe 2 hours left in the event and then spend nearly all my earned clams to buy Worf so I’ll at least have the core TNG crew, but so long original crew and side characters! would have been nice to get at least 1 or 2 by means other than clams/real money! So much I never got to do…

    2. Completely and while we don’t promote hacking I am sure they will have seen a huge increase with this event. Unfortunately it seems like they left inconsistencies with the drops rates and time so people would be forced to spend vast amounts of clams. It seems a terrible shame for them to have lost players due to an event which should have been about fun.

  6. I loved the event, just because I love Star Trek. TinyCo had lots of great ideas for this event but their execution was poor at times. I played mostly freemium, only bought clams to buy spock but everything else was free but I had to play A LOT!! Several times a day and I still struggled to collect everything. I think if they’d have reduced the number of items you needed for some things it would have made the game more enjoyable and less of a chore. And suddenly releasing more characters after the event was supposed to have ended was really annoying..
I liked having a separate event area, that was pretty cool.
In one of the past events they let you exchange your extra items for currency I think it was. I wish they did that in every event

  7. I played through the whole event, and bought every character. (My co-worker calls me a collector lol) This event was one of the best ones yet. It wasn’t too easy, and it wasn’t impossible. The only complaint I can think of is that I spent $10 to get the clams to buy Seven-of-Nine, 265 clams, and she only has 1 animation! You guys were doing awesome on this event, but if you expect players to spend hard earned clams on a premium character, especially one that cost SO MANY clams, then you should give them more than 1 animation to make it worth it…Lets be honest, that’s what players enjoy the most about the characters…

    1. My thoughts exactly bro. I thought I could focus the whole week on getting Kirk and maybe some items from the mystery box, but no! Now I need to collect twice as much items in under a week to get the Borg Bertram statues and uhura. I wouldn’t be surprised if they extend it again lol!!

  8. Wow there is so much to say about this event. First off I loved the idea of the event as a whole. I am a huge Star Trek fan. However, there were lots of problems with the event. I was a premium player and I spent way too much on the characters and things, more than i ever care to admit. There was just no alternative to being able to get the things that I wanted other than buying clams to do so. There was definetely not enough of the dropping of any of the items that you needed for various quests or purchases. There is no possible way in the time allowed woud you have been able to get that far the game if you were strictly a freemium player. The rewards for completed quests were in no way correct compensation. Also the first post that I read on here is so correct its not even funny. I was and still am completely addicted to the game because I have to just constantly check back to finish something or click on the ready buildings and rooms. I have even been late to work because I got up and had to get some things started before I left. There needs to be something that we can purchase or rather earn that does that clicking of building and whatnot on its own and that goes for the regular game as well. I already have a star trek area set up but i plan to readjust things as i get farther in the game and are able to gain more room. Also not to mention the fact that the time limit was ridiculous because the characters actions took so long to do that there literally is not enough hours in the day to realistically do them in the time allowed for the event. Also as much as i love star trek this adding new characters and buildings this late the game is just cruel to us fans-cant get them unless you buy them or buy the stuff you need to get them. I also do not apperciate the fact that there were several quests where they specifically want you to get such and such character in order to complete the quest but the character costs clams or therefore real money. I also agree that the enterprise section needs to be kept as a whole because everyone is most def. right that having a bunch of rooms in a town isnt asthetically apealing in the least. it just doesnt work. I have an area for my star trek already but after the event if i have just a bunch of rooms from the enterprise they are going to stay in the storage because thats just frankly ugly otherwise. Also if we can keep the ship as a seperate section we need the ablitity to keep the characters there out of the way because i have several of the characters like the cats and i keep accidently clicking them as im trying to move around and keep clicking on them but because they dont do anything its just annoying because i end up picking them up every few seconds on accident.im quite sure im forgetting a few things because throughout the whole event i have been having lots of moments where i got pissed off at something whether it was a glitch, or the fact that i felt like i was being robbed for my money and time or aggravated because if was quite obvious that the creators didnt truly want there loyal fans of this game to be happy . I just truly hope and pray that someone who has the authority to changes things with how this game is run reads all of these comments and suggestions and takes them to heart when planning future events and even how the game is ran now.

    1. I feel the same as Cassandra, well said. Of all the events, this one had the most app errors, poor flow and game progression, low drop rates, low building pay outs, impossibly long tasks and missions with little reward — overall it was frustrating bc you want to succeed and get the fun skins, characters, buildings and so forth —but it was simply inpossible. I would rate this event a 2. It was a hot mess. I’m sure TinyCo lost devoted players over it.

  9. I loved this event!! It would have been better had it been Star Wars. I got everything that you could get I think. We should be able to keep the Enterprise. Watch those drop rates. Sometimes they really sucked. Overall I give this a 9 out 10.

      1. You people are way too generous. Compared to previous events I would only give this 3 or 4 out of 10. Definitely the worst one so far.

      3. Lol but honestly, I’d give it a 5/10, only because they extended it a week so we could have more time, the idea of a separate area for the enterprise I liked, the idea of shooting warbirds and Borg cubes was a good idea, but essentially they priced themselves out of getting more money by costing too many clams for characters

      4. Last night I would also have given it 5 for the extension but with the new content released TODAY (not on Thursday) the extra week becomes redundant and I rate it 3. At least in the past they gave us hints to not spend all our event currency so wtf happened this time?

  10. So here is some heads up info:
    – Ive played the whole event Freemium
    – The only items i dont have as of today, May 1st, are rhe last two Dark Matter buildings and Kirk. I havent purchased any of the Rupert mystery boxes.
    – Ive been playing the game since day 1 and have conquered all the events and quests up to this point.
    – I work 10 hours a day as a mechanic/business owner.

Now, Ive found many aspects of this event very entertaining: new music, new environment (cool room systen), fun minigames like the phaser battle and away missions. It was nice that it wasnt in main Quahog. It made loading times faster, gave us a larger playing field, and supported the theme of the event better. It helps that I love Star Trek. I also applaud you providing the opportunity to get clams like in the Christmas event. Just that little bit can be enough for a character youre saving up for.

Now what went wrong: the event was going smoothly until the Troi unlock came. The transporter energies were nearly unobtainable. Rare drops. And you needed a lot of them. It became clear in the coming weeks that you were trying to generate more revenue from this event by making unlock and drop items much more difficult to obtain, almost as if you were testing the waters on shifting it from a freemium game to raw premium, but id like to think the best of you. My advice or preferable approach would be to make a free version of the game and a premium, just charge 5 or 10 dollars for a lifetime pass, then use regular in game currency ( which I have millions of )for everything. Basing the entertainment factor of your game around microtransactions is like getting your friends addicted to meth and progressively charging them more for higher doses, eventually turning them into the police while wearing a t shirt that says “Im a douche, SWAG.” There were far too many premium items and characters in this event. I think everyone who collects for completion can share my sentiment. Borg Consuela was advertised as an available outfit for Warp Core 6 only to find it was a RANDOM prize from a clam based giftbox. I was pretty disappointed, considering shes already a rather useless premium chatacter and you want clams for a slim chance to get a badass outfit for her.

Props on extending the event and asking for feedback. I appreciate the effort, or at least PR. What you do with the feedback is a whole different story though.

  11. On the whole I think this was a very succesful event.
I do think there are some ways it could’ve been improves though.
    – The drop rates and item requirements were ever so slightly on the steep side in my opinion.
    – You earn valueless currency towards the end, and so far there’s been no way of converting it. For instance, I have so much transporter energy and phaser energy, there’s no way I’m gonna use up all of it, but I have very little dark matter. Why not let me make an in game exhange? After all I did earn the other currency which is now piling up and is useless.
    – But worst of all: The Bertram boss battle. I hate this part of the game! And I hate that it is now a part of every event! It is impossible for freemium players to even have a chance to earn enough of the stuff! With just two characters so far it’s a day, and I get the lowest reward. This is so not fun, it’s the complete opposite of fun, and it’s just bad game play and game design, plain and simple. When I read that some players actually loose sleep due to the game, it breaks my heart. Seriously, that’s not gaming, that’s addiction! You’re creating addicts through this poor game design. If you have a consciousness as a company you should drop this and think of something else for the next event you do!
    – It also annoyed me that quests clashed with earning currency too often. And you desperately need said currency. Why did Chris have that quest with Kool-Aid Man in the middle of this event. So annoying, when you desperately need him on the enterprise.

But, besides these points, it was a very good event. I loved that it was in a seperate area, keep that idea! But, I am a little sad to see the space ship area vanish, I must admit 🙂
Will I make a StarTrek area. Probalby not, not a big enough fan, and I can’t see how you can make a collection of rooms look good in a city design.

And if you couldn’t tell. Yes, I am a freemium player, and I plan to stay a freemium player.

  13. I was freemium until Q came along. I bought Q. It was fun. But “costly”. For a short window of opportunity locutus and the others took a lot of rare items. Hopefully the enterprise stays.

  14. I thought the event was good however I believed it was too hard to get the 150 dark matter for Captain Kirk and the 265 clams for worf Spock and Khan was too much

I also like events like comic con and Kingdom of the full moon where it introduces brand new characters and not celebrity’s or TV characters
I really like events with the 100,000 currency for the main prize instead of choosing which ones to get through replicator or witchs cauldrons
Also the 10 clams for worf Guinean and q was not good it should have been more

      1. What I meant is that if u watch Star Trek then u know the characters so when the event comes around u think “wait where’s this character?” Then they bring them in the next update
At comic con they only chose a few celebrities and u did not know which ones where going to be available until they did
Besides if u don’t like Star Trek or haven’t watched it u won’t want to spend loads of money on clam purchases to get characters u don’t even kno just so u can get everything done on time
At Halloween they had alien and predator but they also had mr weed, Francis griffin and Diane Simmons so at least u knew some people there and the same with the Christmas event when they had jasper and Barbara pewterschmit
If they added Bertram as a character to get in this event or at least a Borg Bertram skin it would be something that people who do not watch Star Trek would know and would want

      2. Now you’re saying something completely different lol. “I liked comic con where it introduces brand new characters and not celebrities or tv stars”. That was the first thing you said, but comic con only released celebrities which is why you don’t make sense.

    1. I agree – Each character equated to about £7 to buy – I couldn’t afford that so didn’t purchase them – If they’d been a couple of quid each I would’ve bought all of them – I’m sure they didn’t lose money – But probably would have sold more for less 😃

  15. I think the event was ok, although there were a lot of things that were done that didn’t make any sense. I think the company demands way too much for every new thing. I personally spent $40 on this event and I still had a super difficult time getting everything I needed. Its really irritating when you can only enjoy something if you have the money to back it up. I really love this game but I hate how everything is based on how much money you can spend with them. I’m pretty sure this company makes an absolute fortune off of people who really like this game, so I don’t understand why the company can’t give their players a break once in awhile. The amount of clams it required to purchase anything was absolutely ridiculous. The ability to earn clams is next to impossible. I also noticed that the amount of clams needed to fast forward certain things had tripled or quadrupled the amount needed from regular actions comparetively. Also, it was extremely frustrating to push myself to get everything done just to find out the event got extended another week, and now it looks like there isn’t anything left for me to do. I think it was another really poor decision. Also, is there going to be a perfect for any of the other leftover collection items? or is all that extra collecting have no purpose? Anyways… I really did like the add on, I just still think TinyCo asks for way too much money for things and needs to stop being so damn greedy.

  17. You have to remember that most of us have lives. I’ve been playing daily and have failed to accumulate more than half of the characters and outfits. I also had no idea I was able to unlock different areas of the ship until the day the game was extended by a week. I thought I had to complete missions or something would tell me when other areas were available to be unlocked. By accident I clicked on the other parts of the ship and realized I had been unable to unlock them some time ago. Now I’m rushing trying to play this at work in order to get stuff. I just feel defeated with every event that comes by. It’s all well and good for those who don’t have to work all the time and/or have money to purchase things, but for my hard working yet broke ass, this game is nothing but stress and struggle to gain only a minute amount of things. With every event I seriously consider just deleting the game because I feel like it’s just not worth it. I’m not going to gain cool characters, in turn I will not be able to accumulate little objects that you require to unlock other characters. Also remember that not all players have all of their characters yet. Some people have just downloaded the game today. Have to find the balance for new people and players who have everything. The people who have everything will always bitch but who cares, they have everything and will continue to throw money at you. The new people may get fed up and not play anymore and then you lose the numbers. So do you want a game for die hard gamers or something that’s fun for everyone and in turn may be more lucrative just by the sheer number of players. This has been the least buggy update so far so kudos for that. I’m just sad I probably won’t be able to unlock anyone else within the next 6 days since I’ll be scrambling to get 55 items for this person and 45 items for that person. Seriously. Overkill.

  18. I really wanted worf, Khan and Spock but couldn’t get any of them as I didn’t have enough clams, I think 260 clams each is way too much to ask, they should be 100 clams or 150 tops

  19. Best points of the event. The Enterprise!

Negative points. Constant crashes, which still continue. Being locked out of game on 2 separate occasions….. got back just in time so I didn’t lose Bertream streak… Hated the fact I lost sleep during the whole Bertram thing!! Hated that locked characters had actions which help other locked characters.

I purchased all of the premium characters! Was struggling in early part of event to gather diliuthium so purchased a dilithium mine and tribble bay.

The only thing I didn’t get was Consuella Borg skin……I had one go at getting her and got locked out of my game…….decided not to waste clams on a lucky dip.

If not for the extension I would have been 1 day short of completing 2 quests…….will now finish with lots of time to spare

What would I change about event……the appalling drop rate in the first two weeks of the event.

Characters or skins should be won or premium….hate them being in mystery boxes!!.

What did I expect to see. A starfleet skin for Brian……would have been nice to have Dr McCoy! I also expected characters I paid money for to do more to assist in the game. Would be nice to have something to spend leftover transporter, phaser energy and dark matter on…..keep sending people to Borg cube to use transporter energy but have lots of it!

I would love to keep a star trek district in my game…….but need more land.

Overall I loved this event but hated the constant glitches and drp rates.

    1. I agree as well as I lost a lot of sleep waiting for that stupid Bertram thing to finish. there was one day that I worked so hard to keep my streak going, and because I didn’t hear an alarm I set to check it I lost my entire streak just because I needed to sleep. That is a really crappy way to treat your customers… make them sleep deprived! Another time I had to spend money on clams just to fast forward the attacks on Bertram just so I can get some sleep.

  20. The event’s period is way too short. I have played since day 1 and so far have only 3 more characters to unlock. The upgrade of the warp zone takes too long in the beginning and the amount of yellow stones required is too high since there are not many ways to get them.
The event is pretty fun and OK, but too short in my opinion. Even with the extended week.

  21. i enjoyed this event. However I feel that the character involvement could have been better. What’s the point in unlocking them all if only 2 or 3 offer item drops. Also I felt that the number of items was over the top given the task times you had set for things.

I was also disappointed in the fact that only 1 character could deffet the Borg en less you spent 200 clams on Spock. Or that only dr crusher could deal with the red shirts en less you spent however many clams on Gianan.

As it stand I’m no where close to unlocking data. And as of yesterday I was finally able to unlock dr crusher.

I’m not sure how other people feel by itself am getting really sick and tired the the extra long task time for a ultra rare, rare, common item drop. If your going to set the task longer then 4 hours at least make the item drop more common or make the collection smaller. It took me a month to get anywhere. And honestly you could extend this event for another 2 weeks and I still won’t be able to unlock all the content without spending hundreds of dollars on clams.

  22. I love Star Trek. I grew up with it. So this should have been the perfect event – the humor, the people, everything. Instead we got a massive grindfest that felt more like a job than a game. The amount of stuff required for each unlock was so high, and some of the drop rates so low (I’m looking at you, anti-virus…) that I couldn’t afford to send my people on their storyline quests because I needed them to grind items, especially if said quests would take them away from the game for 24 hours. Ain’t nobody got time for that! I unlocked Data only on the original last day of the event. Any quests related to him I would never have seen if not for the extension.

I was a little surprised that Klingon Meg had so little to contribute. After the end of her little storyline, there was nothing more for her to do except basic tasks.

I haven’t finished all the quests, but what I did see of the storylines and the jokes so far was pretty darn funny. I love all the quotes that the people give when you tap them, and, as usual, I love that they have the real voices. Q, in particular, is hilarious. I will definitely keep them around and make a Star Trek district if I can.

I also like that all the big areas, like the bridge, Ten Forward, the medbay, are relatively screen accurate. I remember that table-console they had in engineering and the platforms on the upper floor, the bridge has the correct configuration, all that sort of stuff. The details are very impressive!

I am only now really able to relax and appreciate it, though, now that I have seven extra days and finally room to breathe. Because for most of the event I have been stressed about whether I’ll be able to unlock everything. There have been days I’ve felt very upset because of it and couldn’t enjoy the game at all. I found myself considering hacking the game so I could give myself 9999 clams and use them to speed up all the tasks because some things just took too long to drop. I even considered quitting the game after this event because it was burning me out so much. I might still, I’m not sure.

In short, I did enjoy parts of the event, but on the whole it was more stressful than fun.

  23. What are the best points of the Star Trek event?
    – tinyco listening and accepting some stuff was too hard to unlock or get and making it easier.
    – the main event area being outside quahog was pretty cool as wells

    Were there any negative points?
the difficulty to unlock many characters, during early weeks when the next phase was starting i was still only halfway through the previous weeks unlocks.

Did you play the whole event freemium?
overall spent $20 which is normal for a family guy event for me, got klingon dude cause he looks funny and spock, ended up bieng 1 clam short of khan to get scotty then decided didnt really care as why spend money on characters i dont care about as they do nothing for the game.

If so, was there anything you couldn’t unlock or achieve?
before the addon i was just getting captain kirk but missing joes skin and some replicator items. thanks to my other half getting on when i was working or busy to restart jobs and send teams to the borg cube. with the extra week ill unlock the rest easy

If you played as a premium player, what did you buy? And what have you unlocked?
just got funny looking klingon dude and spock, other characters didnt interest me.

Could you complete all the quests? If not, why?
not even close, everyone was busy getting items, killing the borg and going on away missions to borg cube.

If you had the chance, would there have been anything you would’ve changed with the event?
    – made drops easier and allow more characters to help out with the event.

Is there anything you were expecting during the event but didn’t see? Certain characters? Buildings?
dont care for star trek so cant help

What do you think about saying farewell to the Enterprise once the event is over? Will you be designing a Star Trek district area?
i like the plant decorations so will horde some to use in my town but buildings wise is no area and dont care for.

    Do you have any suggestions?
do star wars next, you can have all my money.
