What really grinds YOUR gears?

Welcome to our – ‘What Really Grinds Your Gears?’ post – come and share ‘What Really Grinds Your Gears’ with the FG: Tips team!

Lots of events and content updates have been bombarding us all lately, so there must be something that has ground your gears to dust at some point!

We are nearing the end of the New Year event, has there been anything in particular that has almost made you tap that uninstall button?!

We would really like to hear what was grinding your gears – has it been the slow NY event? Was it because the event came almost after NY so dropping the balls and “countdown” happened AFTER NY? Has it been the removal of the Peter and Lois earning tasks… Then TinyCo stating it was fixed but not everyone has the tasks back? Does your game continuously crash? (My game does and resets everything – SO annoying – I said to Hollypopsicle, if I didn’t NEED to play to help you guys out, I would’ve given up! I put 5 people on tasks, crashes, go back into my game and have to set the same characters again! I have started to set 2/3 characters to earning tasks, then force closing so it saves and then going back into my game to set a few more, and repeat!)

  1. The new years Jillian unlock was just terrible! For a week I had all 4 people working on bracelets and both Peter and Chris working on necklaces.. Here it is a notification comes up saying this is the last day to unlock Jillian. I spent clams to finish all 4 people working on bracelets and didn’t get a single bracelet. No Necklaces from peter or chris either. Over a week working on this and I’m still 2 bracelets and 1 necklace short. Very poor rate of drops. Seemed worse than other very rare. Terrible terrible unlock.

  2. The new year event has been rubbish and it has been impossible for to to get the black necklaces, I finally gave in today and paid 30 clams for the last one as I’m going to bed soon and the even will be over when I wake up. Extra rare, more like utterly impossible! I’m frustrated.

  3. Perhaps if they added more characters to help get the black necklaces, it wouldn’t be so bad. As only Chris and Peter (for freemiums) can only get them. I have 4 of the 5 and only need one more to unlock Jillian’s costume, but still, this is nerve wracking to alot of us.

As for crashing, I had it crash on me a bit, but it’s not common for me. In fact, i’ve had my phone restart after opening the game on a rare occasion, and I have no idea what causes it to do it. Weird.

  4. I agree with Stef and Lili. The crashing was really starting to make me want stop playing the game. It got worse after comic con and started crashing every single time I played the game during the Christmas event. If I was not such a huge family guy fanatic I probably would have uninstalled this game a long time ago.

I have noticed an improvement. It still crashes, but now only Once or twice a day when I play it. I think possibly the Christmas event, with the snow across the screen constantly may have just been too much for the game.

I will give TinyCo credit, with the exception of the Christmas event, they have generally fixed crashing issues relatively quickly.

    Using a HTC One M8.

  5. Only two issues for me.
Obviously I’m gonna mention land as we got some huuuuuge buildings this week (like the 12×8 rehab centre) so it’s becoming more of an issue.
The other was the mystery box, specifically how we could get items for Jillian even after unlocking her. I even asked tiny co for more cookies to compensate for this stupidity but they said the box was ‘working as intended’.
The coins in the box was a silly idea too – never again, please.

People are complaining this event has been slow but I disagree. I think others have been too fast, and this is slow compared to them. This was my kind of event – fairly easy to unlock everything and didn’t take up too much of my life. Also how can you ask for more content then complain about crashing? Event features during Christmas like the massive yeti and moving characters (snowmen, satas etc.) cause the game to crash, so be glad that we didn’t get any.

  6. I can’t complete the run out of friends 20 times achievement on android! Any advuce? I use the arrows and get the pop up each day with my 7 friends. Just finished my 100th shapoopi last week too!

    1. I’m pretty sure you need to do a certain amount of friends in a day. Not just your current 7. I believe it is 20 people, but I may be wrong.

When you’be visited “enough” for the day, it stops paying out coins when you visit people. Can still visit, but no coins. When that happens, that’s a tick for that achievement.

  7. I am very annoyed at the black necklace drop rate. It should not be called “extra rare”, it should be called “impossible.” After all this I only have two out of 5 and i have been dilligently going into the game to reset characters.

This event is also slow and boring.

  8. All this crashing is really doing it in for me. I really do love the game and I think they’ve done a great job translating a great cartoon into a fun game. However if Tinyco can’t get this sorted out in the next major update I’m pretty much done.

Tinyco needs to keep in mind that those of us who play as premium players are very likely to walk away if the game keeps crashing. No way I’m going to keep paying for something that’s continuously broken.

Many of the long term freemium players may stick around a while just because they have no financial reason not to and a big investment of time. But any new freemium or potential premium players we’ll probably walk away pretty quickly if the game is crashing on them.

Shortly after Comicon was when the crashes began for me but I know it can be fixed because right before Christmas I went about 3 weeks without a single crash. Whatever they did then was briefly working. When the Christmas update hit I was broken all over again. In fact I’d say it is far worse after Christmas than ever before. Now in order to keep the game from crashing every few seconds I have to play in such a careful, stilted manner that it is definitely taking the fun out of the game.

I am going to give TinyCo until the next big release I’m figuring maybe when district 10 opens. If there hasn’t been major improvement by then it’s time to walk away.

Just for the purpose of full disclosure I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S4 phone, currently on the Kit Kat build. I know it is not my device that can’t handle it. I have ben playing GTA San Andreas (a very resource intensive game) on this phone with out the slightest bit of problems… Okay other than the sloppy controls but that’s not my point.
